My mom's a teacher, so I don't know if this counts. My father is a minimum wage worker.

What were some hurdles that u [you] face[d] being a First Generation White Collar?
Not having the money or "connections"
Did your parents embrace your success or resent it?
Embrace.
Where did you go for guidance, for as money concerns once you got that "real job"?
My oldest brother for a bit of investment advice, and online blogs for everything else, including my blogging on FB in the City.
My decision to get out of that student debt once I started working, was on my own accord once I realized I was in the working world.
What was your first big ticket purchase you bought yourself once entering the professional workforce?
A laptop was the most expensive thing I owned.
All the furniture I got was second hand, but I sure spent a lot on clothes and those kinds of items.
Now I have a car, but I bought it in cash for $2000.
Did your family members and other siblings think you were rich once you had a white collar job? How did they view you?
They thought I was successful, not rich.
My older siblings all have white collar jobs, one earning tripled what I do, but he's 8 years older.
They did think that at my age, I was pretty successful, getting a job at $65,000 when they all started at $30,000 and had to work up to that after 3 years, before one quit and became a freelancer, and now makes around $300k/year working 3 jobs at once.
My other older sibling makes less than I do now, but in the same range — $60,000, and he's aiming to earn $80k at the peak of his career.
And my other sibling makes $40,000 a year but she will own a business outright at the end of her internship in 5+ years and bring in over $100k/year up to $200k/year as steady income.

Re: more about the money comment, is that I paid for tuition all on my own, all $60k. That set my net worth back by $60k by the time I started working my first real job out of school.
It was partly my fault too, negligent spending, not being frugal enough.
But I learned from it.

My story is not as good
I was the first in my family to graduate from college and movemily t into the white collar professional.
My entire family thought I had it going on after I bought a new car.
In fact that was my first splurge.
My parents embrace my success and my siblings lost interest in me.
I have a nice apartment, good job and new car.
However, it's just the opposite instead of doing what FB did
I am in more debt after college than before despite of having a better salary, if my family only knew

What were some hurdles that u face being a First Generation White Collar?
*****Learning to make the right financial decision and modifying my behavior.
Did your parents embrace your success or resent it?
*****My parents embraced my success, but sometimes I think my mom is jealous. She is jealous of what I have done, but not the money.
Where did you go for guidance, for as money concerns once you got that "real job"? Luckily, when I was talking to a older co-worker about my plans I was setting she told me about Dave Ramsey's book "Total Money Makeover". After reading the book, I took his Financial Peace University course. It was more valuable then any college course I had taken.
What was your first big ticket purchase you bought yourself once entering the professional workforce?
***** Once I got the offer letter for my job and signed the contract I bought a car.
Did your family members and other siblings think you were rich once you had a white collar job? How did they view you?
*****My brother was really proud. Family members think I am cheap and sometimes stingy because I am not in the lending business.
