As I said last year, there are goals and there are WANTS
My Wants for 2009 (bad economy or not)
A cruise around the world– to be more comfortable, it has to be in the penthouse suite, gotta be comfortable during those months.
A Lexus, well I can rent one for the weekend (it’s cheaper)
I still want to go to a red carpet movie premiere
Fly in a private jet ( the cheapest one I researched so far was $1,000 a hour) wow~!
If you had money to blow, how will you splurge?

1. An apartment on Central Park West. This is in addition to my main home in the suburbs that I’d like to upgrade. The latter is possible, the former is totally impossible unless I find a treasure or find an extremely rich husband.
2. I like the cruise you mentioned. I think it is doable – when I retire (and assuming current rate of savings and no further significant drops in the stock market).
3. Travel first class and stay at best hotels instead of looking for best fairs like I do now.
4. A nice home somewhere where it is warm (Florida? Puerto Rico?) to spend winters in retirement. Possible.
5. Always buy best seats to opera/ballet/theater performances.
Julie – I’ve been to Prague, it’s really beautiful. It’s not that expensive either. When I went there shortly after the wall came down, I found a centrally placed apartment for $30 a night. Not possible now, but you could probably still manage a week long trip for under $2000.

I’d splurge with regular full body aromatherapeutic massages. And lots of travel, lots of eating out, a personal trainer, and lessons on everything!

I’d hire a chef and a personal trainer to be with me 24/7 for one year.
As for luxuries, there isn’t anything I want that I can’t get right now. The main problem is free time. So can I get enough money to blow that will allow me to quit my job?
